Frederick Irwin Anglican School
Good, Advanced and Conditional Standing

At the recent parent information evenings, I spoke about Good, Advanced, and Conditional Standing. The House Group teachers and Heads of Year have also been introducing this to our students. I have endeavoured to capture below a snapshot of what this is all about. You can find out more information via our facts sheets available on the Student Hub or SEQTA under the documents tab.

We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to excel academically and personally in a safe and supportive environment. To ensure this, we have implemented a Good, Advanced, and Conditional Standing policy in the Secondary School that outlines the standards for attendance, commitment, and behaviour necessary for success at our school and beyond.

Under this policy, Secondary students are evaluated based on their performance against these standards, with three categories: Good Standing, Advanced Standing, and Conditional Standing.

  • Commitment: Students are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to their studies, actively engaging in the curriculum and striving for their personal best. This includes being punctual and prepared, participating actively in class, and showing courtesy and respect to peers and teachers.
  • Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for academic success, as it ensures students have the opportunity to fully engage with the learning program. Students are expected to maintain at least 90% attendance in all courses studied to meet the attendance standard.
  • Conduct: Maintaining appropriate conduct is essential for creating a positive learning environment where all students can thrive. This includes respecting school rules and the rights of others, demonstrating organisation and preparation, and upholding the values of Courage, Compassion, Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Inclusion.
  • Good Standing: Students in Good Standing demonstrate a commitment to their studies, maintain excellent attendance, and exhibit positive conduct throughout the semester. They have access to various privileges and opportunities within the school community, including participation in extracurricular activities and events. All Secondary students started 2024 with Good Standing.
  • Advanced Standing: Achieving Advanced Standing signifies exceptional dedication and performance. Students in this category not only meet but exceed the standards set forth by the school. They are recognised for their outstanding achievements and may receive special awards and privileges. Students can apply for this once they obtain their end of Semester reports.
  • Conditional Standing: Students placed on Conditional Standing have exhibited behaviour or performance below the expected standards. This may include issues related to attendance, commitment, or conduct. In such cases, the school works closely with the student and their parents to develop a plan for improvement and support. Students with Conditional standing will not be able to partake in all the extra-curricular activities the school has on offer until they earn their Good Standing back.

It's important for parents to work collaboratively with the school to address any concerns or challenges they may be facing. By fostering open communication and a partnership between home and school, we can better support our students in reaching their full potential.

We understand that each student is unique, and we are committed to providing individualised support to help every child succeed. Together, we can cultivate a positive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
