About Frederick Irwin Anglican School
We are excited to invite applications from students who are high-achieving learners, and students with talent and passion for sport or music, to apply for an Academic or Music Performance Scholarship for students entering Years 7 and 10 in 2027 or a Sport Scholarship for students entering Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 in 2027.
Since its opening in 1991, Frederick Irwin Anglican School has grown to become a thriving community of over 1,900 students, from Kindergarten through to Year 12 across two campuses. We are proud to offer a number of Academic and Music Performance Scholarships for students entering Years 7 and Year 10 in 2027 and Sport Scholarships for students entering Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 in 2027. Academic Scholarship
Academic Scholarship
Thank you for your interest in an Academic Scholarship.
These Scholarships are designed to support students of excellent academic ability and achievement during their Secondary education. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a common test, and a student’s past and present performance at school.
We offer on merit up to 50% Scholarship in Years 7 and 10 for 2027.
- Closing date for applications: 25 February 2026.
- Date of Scholarship Testing: 7 March 2026 at 9.00am
- Academic Scholarship Application Fee: $140 (inc GST)
- Scholarship Tenure
- Year 7: 3 Years (Years 7-9)
- Year 10: 3 Years (Years 10-12)
Eligibility for 2027 Scholarships is open to both current Frederick Irwin Anglican School students and external applicants.
Please note, to be eligible for a scholarship, all applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents. Closing date is 25 February 2026.
Terms and Conditions of Academic Scholarship Applications:
- Late applications will not be accepted.
- Please note that students can apply for Academic, Sport and Music Performance Scholarships, but if successful will be awarded one Scholarship only.
- Continuation of the Academic Scholarship from one year to the next will be dependent upon a Scholarship student’s continuing excellent conduct and contribution to the School, along with excellence in academic achievement, for Academic Scholarships.
- A copy of Semester 1 2025 and Semester 2 2025 School Reports and at least two (2) previous NAPLAN reports are required. These can be emailed to lesley.hedley@fias.wa.edu.au, at least 10 days prior to the closing date. (School Reports are not required for students currently attending Frederick Irwin Anglican School.)

Music Performance Scholarship
Music Performance Scholarship
Thank you for your interest in a Music Scholarship.
These Scholarships are designed to support students with musical talent, with strong academic ability and achievement during their years of Secondary education. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an instrument or voice performance, and a student’s past and present performance at school.
Requirements for the Audition
The total audition time will be approximately 20 minutes.
- The audition will be conducted with the following structure:
1) A performance by the candidate of prepared pieces and technical work. (10 minutes)
2) A series of short aural/perception tests undertaken by the candidate. (5 minutes)
3) An interview with the candidate – to gather background information and assess levels of music theory knowledge. (5 minutes)
- The total playing time for all pieces and technical work (scales etc.) will be no more than 10 minutes, even if more than one instrument is played by the candidate. Candidates are encouraged to play two prepared pieces of a contrasting nature; however, this is not a requirement of the audition process.
- Candidates who wish to audition on more than one instrument will be required to play a minimum of one piece on each instrument; whilst not exceeding the 10 minutes available for this section of the audition.
- The interviewer will make selections from a written list of prepared pieces and technical work (scales etc.) that must be provided by the candidate and presented to the interviewer at the start of the audition.
- Candidates may be asked to stop playing at any time during the audition.
- Prepared pieces may be accompanied by USB, CD, MP3/iPod player or piano, although this is not a requirement.
- An accompanist is not provided; however, a USB/CD/MP3/iPod player is available for use.
- A Piano and a Drum Kit will be provided for the Audition. All other instruments must be brought by the candidate to the Audition.
- A room will be available to candidates for 15 minutes prior to the Audition.
- If possible, instruments should be ‘tuned’ before the Audition; however, the interviewer will assist with tuning as required.
We offer an on merit up to 50% Scholarship in Years 7 and 10 for 2027.

- Continuation of the Music Performance Scholarship from one year to the next will be dependent upon a Scholarship student’s continuing excellent conduct and contribution to the School. Music Performance Scholarship students will be required to participate fully in the School’s Music programme including instrumental lessons, bands, ensembles and performances.
- A copy of Semester 1 2025 and Semester 2 2025 School Reports and at least two (2) previous NAPLAN reports are required (including Music Reports for Music Performance). These can be emailed at least 10 days prior to the closing date. (School Reports are not required for students currently attending Frederick Irwin Anglican School.)

Kwobadiny Sports Scholarship
Thank you for your interest in a Sports Scholarship.
These Scholarships are designed to support students with sporting talent at an elite level to achieve excellent outcomes in their chosen sport while maintaining consistently high standards of academic effort and behaviour during their years of Secondary education. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an application, portfolio, and a student’s past and present performance at school. A number of Sports Scholarships will be awarded in 2026 for students entering Years 7 to 11 in 2027. Please read the Sports Scholarship information to confirm your child is at an elite level that is eligible for the Scholarship.
Sport at Frederick Irwin Anglican School
Sport is highly valued and forms an integral part of the school culture at Frederick Irwin Anglican School. At Frederick Irwin we recognise that participation in sporting endeavours makes a critical contribution to a child’s holistic development and their participation in life long active healthy lives.
Frederick Irwin Anglican School currently has teams participating in 16 sporting codes through a variety of school and community associations. We participate in Associated Catholic Colleges Sports Carnivals (ACC) and champion schools competitions, School Sport WA champion school competitions, a variety of community sports associations, and the Peel School Sports Association Carnivals (PSSA).
Kwobadiny Sports Scholarship
We offer a part-scholarship in Years 7 to 11 focused on developing potential elite athletes excelling in their field of sport and their contribution to the culture of sport at Frederick Irwin.

The Application Process

All candidates will be contacted by email and advised of the outcome of their application. - Letters will be sent to the scholarship awardees outlining the scholarship and inviting them to a celebratory event to hear from the Principal and Head of Health and Physical Education.
- On acceptance of the scholarship the successful scholarship recipients will be published on the School website.

Cultural Scholarship
Cultural Scholarship
The purpose of the Cultural Scholarship (click to view PDF) is to recognise and elevate students from culturally diverse backgrounds who do, or are likely to, meaningfully contribute to Frederick Irwin Anglican School’s culture and community and demonstrate our School Core Values. The Cultural Scholarship is intended to encourage recipients to pursue excellence during and beyond their school years – in their personal lives, study, work, play, family and community.
- Closing date for applications: 27 February 2026.
Application Requirements
An applicant for the Cultural Scholarship must provide the following items:
- A letter giving an overview about the student and reasoning why the scholarship would be beneficial for them;
- Certificates, letters of commendation (if any) and other information that the student is proud of and would like to share
- A copy of the student’s two most recent school reports;
- A personal reference, including the referee’s (business) address and contact information (the referee must not be a family member);
- Completed enrolment form including birth certificate and other important information.

Scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the School Principal and are reviewed annually. Scholarships may be terminated if students do not satisfy the eligibility and expectations detailed above.
