Frequently Asked Questions 

1. Who do I contact if my child will be absent?

If your child will be absent on a day, Parents must notify School Reception (specific campus) via the Absences Tab in SEQTA Engage. If your child will be absent for an extended period, a written notice to the Principal is required.

2. What do I do if I need to pick up my child or drop off something for them?

All Primary parents and carers must come to Primary Reception and sign in if they wish to drop an item off to their child’s class or collect their child from a classroom. Secondary parents and carers come to Secondary Reception to collect their child or to drop off an item Secondary students will meet their parents at Reception and sign out.

3. Does the School have Child Safe, Privacy and Whistleblower policies?

The School is part of AngliSchools who require all schools to have, implement and regularly review a number of policies including a Child Safe Policy, Privacy Policy and Whistleblowers Policy, and also comply with the Standards for Non-Government Schools and be registered by the Director General of the WA Department of Education. 4. Does the School have a Protective Behaviours Curriculum?

Yes, Primary and Secondary schools teach students The Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum https://kscpc.sa.edu.au/ which is endorsed by AISWA. 

5. How does the school handle bullying and harassment?
The School does not accept Bullying or Harassment and has Bullying & Harassment Prevention Policy. Students, parents, or staff can report bullying through: 

  • Student Hub Online Reporting Tool (anonymous option available).
  • Speaking directly to any teacher, Head of Year, or school counsellor.
  • Email or phone contact with the school office.

Matters are investigated in collaboration with all parties, and restorative resolutions found and continually monitored.

6. Where can I find information about School Policies and Procedures e.g.  Uniform, Behaviour Management, Homework and the Assessment Policy?

7. Is there a Student and Parent Code of Conduct?
Yes, all students and parents must abide by the Code of Conduct available on the school website here 

8. How are disputes and complaints handled? 

Concerns should first be discussed with the relevant teacher or staff member. If this remains unresolved, parents can escalate the matter to the Head of Department, Head of Year, Deputy Head of School, Head of School, Deputy Principal and the Principal. 9. Are mobile phones allowed at School?
Mobile phones must be switched off, locked in the student’s locker, Bag OR handed in at Student Administration. Mobile phones are not to be taken out or used whilst on school grounds. This includes before and after school. Students who require the use of a mobile phone for a specified need e.g. Medical monitoring, will be allowed.

10. Are students able to have wearable devices e.g. Smartwatches?

Students are not permitted to have wearable devices that provide open and unrestricted access to messaging services and Social Media Apps. Students are permitted to wear devices that have parental controls applied. E.g. Apple’s Schooltime and Google Family Link or are parent‑controlled wearables such as Spacetalk, Pixbee, Gabb Watch, Bark Watch etc. Wearables are not allowed to be worn by Secondary students during assessments. 

11. How does the school manage health and medication? Medications require written medical authorisation and must be provided in original packaging. Parents must notify the School Reception of any medical conditions and medical needs.

12. Are students allowed to park on School grounds?
Only Year 12 students may park on School grounds. Students must complete an Application to Drive a Motor Vehicle to School and vehicle keys must be signed in at the start of the day. Students may carry siblings or other Year 12 students, only, as passengers in their car. Passengers must be listed on the approval form.

13. What co-curricular activities are available?
The school offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, drama, and leadership programmes. FIAS sporting teams play in a number of local competitions. 

14. How can parents get involved in the school community?
Parents can volunteer in various school activities such as assisting in classrooms, attend school events, and join the ‘Friends of FIAS’ group. 

15. How does the school communicate with parents?
Communication occurs across a range of different options including the SEQTA Engage app, the FIAS app, SeeSaw (Primary), newsletters, social media and emails. Each school also runs a number of Parent Teacher Student Interviews, Parent Teacher meetings and Parent Information nights, throughout the year.
