Congratulations to Year 11, Jack Wade, who recently achieved his black belt in karate.

Jack began his karate training October 2021, although he was influenced at a young age and did taekwondo for a couple years when he was younger as well.

Jack said that with lots of dedication, blood, sweat and tears, he is happy that he made it this far as there are only 1500 black belts in his style across the world.

Jack's next plans with his martial arts career, is to hopefully achieve the next rank in a couple years time. This is Nidan (second degree black belt), and is also looking forward to exploring other martial arts and learning more about the art of fighting.

"What I enjoy most about Karate and martial arts itself is how it gives you the skills to persevere and respect others," he said.

"Karate is not only kicking and punching, it is also about self awareness. Karate gave me confidence and taught me how to have control. Karate has taught me the essentials for protecting myself and others in unforeseen circumstances. Even though the techniques are pretty cool and could deal serious damage we are always taught to have self control. Karate has given me discipline, showing up to training for hours on end and that putting in the effort gives results."

Jack also said that he has big ambitions to compete in other martial arts, like kickboxing and jujitsu.
