On Thursday, August 14, Mrs Golding’s Year 10 Creative Writing students participated in ‘Write a Book in a Day’. This is a national competition in which students have the opportunity to collaborate and flex their creativity, whilst both competing for prizes and raising money for kids with cancer.
Our three teams, ‘The Pencil Pals, ‘The Harry Plotters’ and ‘The Plot Potatoes’, were each given a set of unique parameters. These included having to set a story in Kakadu, featuring a golf player, an astronomer and a dog, in one story of 3500 – 5000 words, whilst also including words such as ‘gooey, ‘yarn’ and ‘homework’. Students had to create an illustrated cover page and a blurb, as well as providing illustrations throughout the story. Every book submitted is made available for free to kids in hospitals around Australia.
A big thank you goes to Mrs Golding, who made sure that each team was kept highly motivated and enthusiastic throughout a rather long day of hard work. The teams produced three imaginative and beautifully illustrated stories: “All Under Control”, “Smoke on the Horizon” and “Banjo and his Didgeridoo”.
