Congratulations to Hamish Spooner and Niamh Richardson who recently attended the WAAPA Contemporary Music School.
The Winter School was an intensive three day course where students covered a workshop on home recording, skills workshops where they came up with original songs and melodies, ensemble work where they had a chance to play music together, and “like a version” workshops where they could be creative and come up with their own spin on well known songs.
Niamh and Hamish really enjoyed meeting other likeminded people, and being able to create something with others they weren't previously familiar with. The tutors were really supportive and encouraged creativity in the groups.
At the end of the three days there was a concert for families to attend which was fantastic, the talent was unbelievable. Niamh played both bass and cello in three group performances, and Hamish received a full bursary scholarship.
Niamh and Hamish were both able to gain a real taste of what it will be like for them to study a degree in contemporary music at WAAPA. Hamish is heading there when he graduates school!
Well done, Hamish and Niamh!
