Dear Parents and Carers
I welcome everyone to Term 2 and genuinely enjoyed greeting our students and families on the first day back. Seeing the students’ enthusiasm and excitedness to reconnect with their teachers and peers was heart-warming. At our welcome back assembly, I spoke to the students about goal setting and ensuring that they give one hundred percent effort in everything they do. I’m very appreciative of the hard work carried out by our staff in the lead up to Wednesday and am excited about the rich learning opportunities planned for our students this term.
Community
On Thursday 1st May we had our ANZAC service, and it was a lovely and respectful opportunity for our students to reflect on the sacrifices that others made for our freedoms. I had the absolute privilege of attending the Mandurah ANZAC service with two of our House Captains, Alex Mullins and Ashleigh Simmons. Alex and Ashleigh represented the school very maturely and even marched into the service to show their respect.
We have our upcoming Learning Journey in Week 3, and I encourage all parents who are able, to attend. It’s a lovely event and the feedback we got last year was very positive. Please also reach out to your classroom teacher about how you can become involved in your child’s learning.
Staffing
This term we wish Miss Kara McShane all the best as she is now on long service leave for Term 2. Mrs Kerry-Anne Berryman is teaching PM1 and is very excited about supporting her students and joining our team. We also wish Mrs Rosalba Williamson all the best on her long service leave and welcome Mrs Lisa Symonds who will be filling her role. Mrs Symonds is also excited about joining our strong team. Mrs April Carmody rejoins our learning community for the term, as she is covering the educational leave of Miss Morgan Woodgate. We are so appreciative that Mrs Carmody is able to assist.
We are also farewelling two very respected members of staff at the end of Week 5. Mrs Pat Rehm has made a decision to step away from her role and retire from education. She has had such a positive impact on the Frederick Irwin community over a number of years and will be missed. She has consistently worked tirelessly to ensure that the Frederick Irwin community is an inclusive and positive space for our students. I recognise the work and support that Mrs Rehm has provided to our staff, students and leadership team and will always be appreciative of her dedication and care.
Mrs Jenni McRae has also made a decision to step away from her role to be able to spend more time with her family. Mrs McRae has also worked hard over the years to develop an engaging and challenging extension programme. She is so dedicated to the growth of her students and genuinely enjoys supporting them in their development and achievements. We will certainly miss Mrs McRae but understand her decision and wish her and her family nothing but the best. Both positions have been advertised, and we are in the process of selecting suitable candidates that will be able to carry on the great work that Mrs Rehm and Mrs McRae have established.

I encourage all families to use the School app and calendar to keep up to date with School events. This live planner is the best way to ensure you know what date and time each event occurs. However, I have listed some upcoming events that may be helpful.
