The Humanities and Social Sciences Department are excited to share with you the incredible experiences Year 9 students had during their recent excursion to the Aviation Heritage Museum in Bullcreek and Optus Stadium. This engaging and educational trip provided students with valuable insights into both our aviation history and the world of professional sports, as part of their studies in Humanities and Social Sciences.

At the Aviation Heritage Museum, our students had the opportunity to interact with community volunteers and explore a vast collection of aircraft that span Australia's involvement in all conflicts. The museum's displays were not only informative but also served as a medium to narrate the story of our aviation heritage. Moreover, the museum is a significant hub for RAAFA commemoration activities, where displays pay tribute to the achievements and sacrifices of Air Force personnel in war and peace.

In continuation of their educational journey, the students embarked on a tour of Optus Stadium, home to the Fremantle Dockers, West Coast Eagles, and the Perth Scorchers. This visit was a part of their Year 9 Geography course, which explores various aspects of tourism and the interconnections we have with place. The walking tour took them through the stadium, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the change rooms. The students were enthralled as they entered the stunning Victory Lounge, allowing them to enjoy a view of the field of play from some of the best vantage points. Additionally, they had the privilege to explore the incredible Coaches Room, further immersing themselves in the world of professional sports.

This excursion aimed to engage our students in a hands-on learning experience, fostering their understanding of history, heritage, tourism, and the social dynamics surrounding these institutions. We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff, volunteers, and personnel at both the Aviation Heritage Museum and Optus Stadium for their warm hospitality and enriching experiences they provided to our students. Their efforts contributed immensely to the success of this excursion.
