Year 6 Canberra Trip 2023

Primary School Tuesday, 14 Mar 2023

In Week 5, nearly ninety Year 6 students undertook an educational tour of the nation’s capital.

Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $465 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs.

The tour was a wonderful experience filled with many and varied activities: old and new Parliament House, Royal Australian Mint, Australian Institute of Sport, the Australian War Memorial, Questacon, National Museum, Australian Electoral Commission as well as many others.

We finished the trip with a visit down to Sydney where we enjoyed a ferry trip from Circular Quay to Manly.

The students represented our school exceptionally well and we received many positive comments from the public about their behaviour.

It was a privilege to accompany this group of students and I thank the 10 staff members who accompanied us.
