Secondary Inter-House Athletics Carnival

Sports Updates Monday, 22 Aug 2022

For the first time in many year’s we held our Inter-House Athletics Carnival on the planned calendar date, Friday 12 August. After weeks of unsettled stormy weather, the sun came out and we were treated to a perfect day for athletics.

We are again extremely appreciative of the tireless work of the grounds staff in preparing the running track and field event stations given the challenge of the weather in the previous weeks leading up to the carnival.

Students took on the challenge of the various track and field events in support of their respective Houses and right from the first gun the competition was fierce.

Highlights of the day were the competitiveness and sportsmanship across all age groups in all their events and those who event after event showed the courage, willingness and determination to take part, support their House and give it their best.

I would also once again like to congratulate our Year 12 students present for their leadership and their exemplary role model on the day. Their participation was outstanding across all the senior events culminating in the Year 12, 1500m run, now a significant event in the culture of our school. With more than 100 runners participating, it’s a great spectacle. Sydney Meares from Arnold won the girls 1500m event and Michael Baker of Gordon won the boys.

Congratulations to Arnold House on taking out the 2022 Inter-House Secondary Athletics Carnival for the third year in a row. It is up to the other Houses to take on the challenge of this period of dominance in athletics from the teale shirts.

Big improvers were Rose who were fifth in 2021 up to second in 2022, maybe 2023 will be their year. We now look forward to our champions participating at the ACC Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 6 September.
