Kaya to all of our community
For the first time in a long while I felt chilly out at Kiss and Drive this morning. It seems the Noongar season of Djeran may be upon us. Djeran is a time of transition between the heat of Bunuru and the cold of Makuru. There have been signs of change around the campus, the red flowers on the gum tree near the playground have attracted bees and the biara (banksia) flowers are beginning to emerge. Our Eco Committee, led by Mr James Johns, have also been busy planting vegetables and revegetating some of our bush spaces. There is a positive buzz around the campus and the first few weeks of term have been a hive of activity!
We had a beautiful ANZAC Service on Friday of Week 1, led by our student leaders. Thank you to Year 12 student, Aavi Barker, for sharing her incredible talents with us and playing the Last Post and Reveille. Aavi has been a generous performer who has contributed to many services across the school throughout the years and we wish her well in her further studies.
Our Learning Journey/Open Afternoon in Week 2 was a fabulous celebration of the students’ learning, and we were delighted to see so many of our families in attendance. Our choir performances in the Koort (heart) of the campus were a highlight.
Last Tuesday 13 May we had our school photo day. The students looked wonderful in their Winter uniforms. Thank you, families, for ensuring your children looked their best not just for the day, but every day. If ever you are unsure about uniform expectations, I encourage you to check the policy on the school website. https://www.frederickirwin.wa.edu.au/our-school/school-documents
This term, there are many more exciting events and opportunities for our students, including an Indonesian cultural incursion for Pre-Primary to Year 6 students and National Simultaneous Storytime in Week 4, and commemoration of Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week in Week 5. Keep abreast of events by the checking the school calendar on our website or app.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our entire staff for their hard work, dedication, energy and enthusiasm, not just for making such events happen, but for their work every day.
Boordawan (see you soon) at Koolyininap (Halls Head)!
