Written by Joshua Henrickson (Year 8)
Hosting Haruto, a Japanese exchange student, was a mixed but memorable experience. Many Year 8 students were curious about him, asking questions like "Do you like Australia?" We mostly relied on an online translator to communicate since my Japanese skills were limited. We had fun making a paper crane together, which now sits on my desk, and Haruto tried his first Tim Tam.
In classes, Haruto attended Japanese and Physical Education, where he impressed Mrs Crane with his speed of running. English class was challenging for him due to its advanced content. Despite some communication difficulties, hosting Haruto was enjoyable.
If we meet again, I’m confident our communication will be better, making the experience even more rewarding.
