Year 9 Outdoor Education Camp

At the end of Term 3, our Year 9 students completed their Outdoor Education Camp.

The classes camped at either Baden Powell camp grounds in the Lane Poole Nature Reserve or Potter’s Gorge in the Wellington National Park.

The students had a great experience, some of which they found extremely challenging. Some of these challenges were during activities such as: hiking, biking, kayaking or canoeing, abseiling, rock climbing or the high ropes course. Other challenges included living in a tent for the four days, cooking their own meals as well as cleaning, interacting socially with a wide range of personalities and preparing for each day. Overall, as a staff we were pleased with the contribution made by these groups. We hope that for many of them, this is the first of many outdoor experiences that they will grow and develop from.

The Camps are so beneficial for our students as they allow them to feel proud of what they have achieved, treat others with tolerance and respect, make new friends, and demonstrate care for the environment in their own actions.

It is always wonderful watching their personal growth in self-confidence, resilience and skill development.
