FREDERICK Irwin Anglican School has attained eSmart status through The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

Since Frederick Irwin first registered with the program in 2016, the school has introduced many new policies and activities to improve the way the school manages cybersafety, bullying and cyberbullying.

Principal Kerry Robertson felt confident students, staff and the wider school community were now well supported to be smart, safe and responsible users of digital technology.

“We encourage everyone in the school community to continue to uphold and promote eSmart behaviours, at school and at home,” she said.

ICT co-ordinator Candice Shier said the Cyberleader program, introduced as part of the eSmart school process, had been rewarding for students.

“The research suggests peers are the first stop approach for help when dealing with a negative online environment,” she said.

“Our Year 10 Cyberleaders nominate themselves and take time out of their busy school schedules to put together educational cybersafety presentations for primary school students and Year 7s.

“The presentations are such a great way to convey messages about online safety through the different year levels at the school.

“They encourage students to share their experiences and how they can improve their online journeys.”
