Dear Parents and Caregivers

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back to school. The staff have worked very hard to create wonderful learning environments for our students and have looked forward to this first week. It is always a special day welcoming the students back and I enjoy catching up with families as well. I have met with students in every class to speak about the excitement of 2020 and to express how pleased we were to see them.

It is amazing to reflect on the fact that we are now beginning our third year at the Halls Head campus, and I am so appreciative of everyone that makes our School special. We will continue to provide our students with opportunities to learn through play and to develop agency. We will continue to prioritise giving students a voice and we will continue to foster our students’ curiosity by developing their inquiry skills. I look forward to being involved in our students’ growth and development in this exciting year.

Community

I had the pleasure of welcoming our new families at our orientation event. It is always enjoyable to welcome people to our community and to have the opportunity to talk about our strong connections. I’m also thrilled to see how welcoming everyone is and continue to hear about how positive our campus feels. I have seen how inclusive our students are of each other and am so pleased to see the caring way that new students are embraced in class and during play.

On Thursday 20 February, the annual Bush Dance will take place on our campus at 5.30pm. This has become a lovely tradition at Frederick Irwin and remains a special opportunity for families of both campuses to come together for an evening of fun. I encourage everyone who is able to attend, to do so and look forward to dancing with my own family on the night.

We continue to look for ways to improve our communication with families and I have emailed out a schedule of the parent information sessions in Week 2. We continue to offer parent surveys at the end of Year 2 and Year 6 and reflect on this information annually. We will certainly continue to plan and offer workshops for our communities and I look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead.
