From the Principal – Newsletter Edition 08, 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
Looking back at previous newsletter articles that I have written at this time of the year, I noted that usually there are so many events to report on; however, this year is different!
It has been wonderful during Phase 3 and 4 of the Western Australian Recovery Roadmap to be getting back to some semblance of normality. Yesterday, the Halls Head campus was able to hold the Commissioning of the House Captains; a bit late in the year, and held outside to ensure that the Phase 3 rules were being followed (as the planning for the event took place before Phase 4 eventuated). What a wonderful occasion – our first assembly since early in Term 1!
We are so much looking forward to Phase 5 (fingers crossed!) when we return to school in Term 3! To be able to hold assemblies where the students can be together, to which we can invite parents and grandparents, and where we can celebrate who we are as a school and as a community used to be the everyday norm, now it is an absolute privilege!
I would like to thank our whole community for your efforts over this past very difficult semester. Your determination to follow everything we have asked of you has been noticed and speaks volumes about how special our school community is.
To those students and families who are leaving Frederick Irwin at the end of this term, we wish you all the best for the future.
We say farewell and thank you to the following staff members, who are at the end of short term contracts:
- Mrs Holly de Jonge – English
- Mr Jaydon Geerlings – Science
- Mrs Alicia Woods – Japanese
Mrs Annelise van den Elzen will finish her contract at Meadow Springs, but will continue in her Music role at Halls Head. We thank her for her work with our Primary Meadow Springs students this semester.
All the best to our staff members who are on Long Service Leave either in Term 3 or for all of Semester 2:
- Mrs Averil Evans – Semester 2
- Mrs Denise Logue – Semester 2
- Mrs Linda Preston – Term 3
- Mr Stephen Preston – Term 3
Thank you to the following members of staff who have done wonderful work in acting roles this term:
- Mrs Marlise Vaughan – Acting Head of Jamieson House
- Mr Michael Brown – Acting Assistant Head of Jamieson House
Please note that the School’s Annual Report (2019) has been published on the website under the ‘Our School’ heading.
As we approach the winter break, I know everyone is extremely tired. A particular thank you goes to our staff and students, those people we see every day on campus. Please have a rest! We look forward to welcoming you back next term.
