Dear Parents

Welcome back to the new school year, and a particularly warm welcome to our new families and students.

I encourage parents to make sure they can login to SEQTA Engage and to become familiar with it. This is regularly up-dated with course and assessment information. There is also a link to the School’s Careers website as well as other documents such as examination timetables and assessment policies.  Parents and students need to be aware of the details in these documents.

Secondary Assessment Policies

Our educational programme is based on the assumption that barring illness or an extraordinary event, students are in class every weekday. Students need to attend school daily to succeed. Being at school leads to succeeding in school. Achievement is very sensitive to attendance, and absence of even two weeks during one school year matters. Attendance is also strongly related to graduation rates.

To ensure that all students are treated fairly, a Senior Secondary Assessment Policy and a Lower Secondary Assessment Policy have been developed which follows the guidelines and commonly accepted practices of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. These policies cover all aspects of assessment and reporting in Years 7 to 12. They are available in SEQTA Engage and SEQTA Learn. Please take the time to read them.

Absenteeism for reasons other than illness or extenuating circumstances is becoming pervasive and is raising concerns in the school community. While we understand that for many parents it may be difficult to get leave during the school holidays, I do ask that holidays during school time be kept to a minimum.

The Assessment Policies will be fully implemented from the beginning of the school year and I urge you to support the School and encourage your child to attend school every day.

Kind regards

Georgina Solomon
