From the Chaplain – Newsletter Edition 09, 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
Three blessings in the next two weeks.
It was with great joy this week that the staff shared in worship together in the Chapel. The Chapel has sat unused for group worship for nearly four months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be more joy this weekend, as two baptisms will take place in the Chapel, when parents and godparents give thanks to God for the blessing of their children, and commit to supporting them in their life and spiritual journey.
The third blessing will be the resumption of student led Secondary and Primary services from next week. Worship is important for Christians; in fact, it is important for people of all religions.
Why? Paul answers this question well in his letter to the Colossians:
“Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives — words, actions, whatever — be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God, the Father, every step of the way.” (Colossians 3:16-17(The Message)
For many of our students and school families, the worship they experience at school may be the only time that they encounter Christian worship. That is why we take great pains to make sure our worship is accessible through simple language, creativity and acknowledging the place and importance of Scripture is God centred and joyful.
I am more than happy to discuss Baptism, Reception to Communion (students over 7 years), Confirmation and other Pastoral Services with any member of the past and present Frederick Irwin community.Tags:
