Mental Calculation Strategies (Mainly applicable to Years PP-3):
The ability to calculate in your head is an important part of mathematics. It is also an essential part of coping with society’s demands and managing everyday events. A feature of mental calculation is that a type of calculation can often be worked out in several different ways. Which method is the best will depend on the numbers involved, the age of the children and the range of methods that they are confident with. This session will set out expectations for the types of calculations that children should be able to do mentally.
